Comedian, filmmaker and actor Edy Modica is stepping into a new career milestone with her debut comedy special, “I’m Just Like You (And It Sucks),” produced by Emmy- and Peabody-winning production company Irony Point.
The special showcases Modica’s comedic perspective while expanding her presence beyond acting and filmmaking. Ahead of its release, the New York-based performer has been connecting with podcast hosts and comedy personalities, discussing her creative process, career and approach to humor.
Her recent podcast appearances include “Standup Desk,” “WHGS with Ashley Gavin,” “Business Casual,” “Bein’ Ian with Jordan Jensen,” “Stavvy’s World,” “Office Hours with Tim Heidecker” and “Interior Motives with Rachel Kaly.” The conversations offer audiences an opportunity to get to know Modica as a performer whose work spans stand-up comedy, screen acting, writing and independent filmmaking.
“I’m Just Like You (And It Sucks)” is scheduled to premiere on YouTube in September 2026, following an earlier release planned for June 26 on VEEPS. The special’s YouTube launch is set for an 8 p.m. ET premiere, with Modica joining viewers in the chat to watch alongside fans and friends. The comedy publication Humorism has also praised the project.
Modica first gained wider attention for her performance in Amazon’s Emmy-nominated comedy series “Jury Duty,” the breakout show that placed her on The Hollywood Reporter’s 2023 list of “20 Supporting Actors Who Stole the Scene.” Her work on the series helped introduce her to audiences while establishing her as a performer to watch.
Her creative career extends well beyond acting. Modica was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” in 2022, recognition connected to her short film “Nicole.” The project was also selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick and has continued to inform her work as a writer and filmmaker. She is currently developing a half-hour comedy pilot for HBO based on the short film.
On television, Modica has appeared in Apple TV’s “Shrinking,” HBO Max’s “Made for Love” and HBO’s “High Maintenance.” She also recurs in Paramount+’s Tracy Morgan comedy series “Crutch.”
Her film credits include “Eenie Meanie,” starring Samara Weaving, and Netflix’s “Bad Day,” featuring Cameron Diaz.
With her first comedy special, Modica brings these different creative experiences together in a project centered on her distinctive voice. The release marks another step for a performer building a career across comedy, film and television while connecting with audiences through both scripted work and live conversation.
