Film at Lincoln Center has announced that acclaimed filmmaker Jim Jarmusch’s highly anticipated feature, Father Mother Sister Brother, will make its North American premiere as the Centerpiece selection of the 63rd New York Film Festival (NYFF63). The screening will take place on October 3 at Alice Tully Hall, with Jarmusch and members of the cast in attendance.
Presented by Film at Lincoln Center in partnership with Rolex, NYFF63 runs from September 26 through October 13. Festival passes are available now, with single tickets for the general public going on sale September 18 at noon ET.
Known for his poetic, character-driven films like Stranger Than Paradise, Paterson, and Only Lovers Left Alive, Jarmusch returns with an intimate, visually rich exploration of family and memory. Father Mother Sister Brother is a triptych told through three interwoven stories set across New Jersey, Dublin, and Paris, each centering on adult children reconnecting with aging or lost parents.
The ensemble cast includes Adam Driver and Mayim Bialik as siblings visiting their reclusive father (Tom Waits) in rural New Jersey; Vicky Krieps and Cate Blanchett as sisters confronting the emotional complexities of their novelist mother (Charlotte Rampling) in Dublin; and Indya Moore and Luka Sabbat as twins returning to Paris to face a family tragedy.
Jarmusch’s subtle and deliberate storytelling is elevated by his longtime collaborators, including cinematographers Frederick Elmes and Yorick Le Saux, editor Affonso Gonçalves, and distributor MUBI.
“I am so very proud of the long history of my work being presented at the NYFF,” said Jarmusch. “I’m honored that Father Mother Sister Brother has been selected as this year’s Centerpiece. The NYFF has provided many of my greatest inspirations and revelations in its continuing celebration of the deep and diverse beauty of cinema.”
Dennis Lim, Artistic Director of the New York Film Festival, praised the film, calling it “one of Jarmusch’s very best… wise, generous, slyly funny, and enormously moving.”
