Summoners Ensemble Theatre and Merchant’s House Museum Celebrate the 13th Season of A Christmas Carol at the Merchant’s House

This holiday season, Summoners Ensemble Theatre and the historic Merchant’s House Museum (29 East 4th Street, Manhattan) will once again bring Charles Dickens’ classic tale to life in A Christmas Carol at the Merchant’s House. Now in its 13th celebrated year, the immersive production returns from November 25 through December 28, transforming one of New York’s most beloved 19th-century homes into a Victorian holiday wonderland.

This season welcomes actor Vince Gatton, who joins longtime star John Kevin Jones to share the role of Charles Dickens, alternating performances throughout the run. Set in December 1867, the show reimagines the moment when Dickens himself arrived in New York City for a month of sold-out readings of A Christmas Carol. Guests are transported back 150 years to experience the story as Victorian audiences once did—by candlelight, in the elegant Greek Revival parlor of the landmark 1832 home.

Surrounded by authentic 19th-century holiday decorations, audiences will be captivated by a one-hour performance adapted directly from Dickens’ own script. The intimate setting, limited seating, and historical atmosphere combine to make this a uniquely personal theatrical experience. The production is not recommended for children under 12.

Adding to the holiday cheer, the ever-popular “A Holiday Reception with Mr. Dickens” returns for select performances from December 5–26. During these special evenings, guests will enjoy an additional reading of “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by John Kevin Jones, followed by a festive 19th-century reception featuring “Smoking Bishop” mulled wine or chilled cider. The event, limited to just 20 guests, invites attendees to “party like the Dickens” in the Merchant’s House family room, kitchen, and garden (weather permitting). Reception tickets are $35 and available as part of the “Reception & Performance” ticketing option.

Regular 70-minute performances are priced between $50–$130, with doors opening 30 minutes before each show. Tickets are available at www.summonersensemble.org
