PlayChange.io is betting that the future of sports gaming will be about more than simply playing a game.

In celebration of National Video Game Day, the company announced “Round One,” a major launch initiative designed to introduce the next phase of its athlete-owned gaming ecosystem. The rollout will include an August playable demo, new community memberships, an online merchandise store, an independent artist initiative, and a community funding campaign.

Founded by CEO Andrew Gilliam, PlayChange combines sports, blockchain, artificial intelligence, digital commerce and community engagement into a single platform. Rather than focusing on one standalone title, the company says it is building an ecosystem designed to eventually connect professional athletes, creators, musicians and gamers.

The first public playable demo is scheduled for release in August, giving players an early opportunity to experience the platform and explore its CryptoBoxers universe.

Round One will also activate several revenue and community features, including PlayChange memberships and an official PlayChange and Professional Athlete Merchandise Store. The company is also working with an advertising agency as it develops additional monetization opportunities.

PlayChange has launched a community funding campaign with an initial $100,000 goal. The company says the funds will support game development, athlete onboarding, platform expansion and future sports titles.

New subscribers during the Round One campaign will receive a digital Founder Pack featuring behind-the-scenes development material, concept art, early previews, digital collectibles and priority access to future announcements.

The company is also inviting independent musicians to participate in its Independent Artist Initiative. Artists can submit original music for potential inclusion in CryptoBoxers, future PlayChange games, trailers and curated soundtrack releases.

Artificial intelligence is another key part of the company’s development strategy. PlayChange says AI is being used to accelerate production and improve player experiences as the platform develops.

The August demo is being built in Unity, allowing the company to test gameplay, online services and community features with real users. PlayChange says it ultimately plans to move future development toward Unreal Engine as it pursues more advanced visual and gameplay experiences.

Its flagship title, CryptoBoxers: Round 1, remains scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. Originally conceived by Gilliam in 2019 as a blockchain-based boxing game prototype, the title has evolved into a fantasy boxing experience combining athletes, digital collectibles, AI and community participation.

Gilliam says the broader goal extends beyond boxing.

“We’re building an infrastructure that allows athletes to own more of the value they create while giving fans entirely new ways to participate,” he said.

With Round One, PlayChange is positioning CryptoBoxers as its first major test of a larger athlete-owned gaming model — one that could eventually expand across multiple sports, creators and communities.
